Out of Hours Service

We know how much your pet means to you, especially at times of ill-health or during an emergency. At Midforest Veterinary Practice we offer a 24/7 service. Outside normal opening hours you will be directed to either our Totton clinic or our OOH provider Vets Now.

In cases of emergency, simply phone the normal number and listen carefully to the message.

Operating Theatre

Both sites have well equipped operating facilities and manage their own routine surgical cases. The theatres are equipped with gaseous anaesthesia and Multi-parameter touch-screen anaesthetic monitors.

X-ray

Powerful X-Ray generators with digital X-Ray processors

Laboratories

We have the on-site equipment for running blood tests, urine tests and microscopy.

Dentistry

State of the art dental machines with high-speed air-driven drills, just like your own dentist! In 2017 the Lyndhurst practice installed digital dental X-Ray equipment.

Blood Pressure

We have the equipment to measure and monitor your pets blood pressure.

Ultrasound

We have modern state of the art ultrasound imaging facilities at both sites, Lyndhurst and Totton.

ECG

ECG machines for recording the electrical activity in the heart.

Endoscope

Flexible endoscope for looking into difficult places!

Home Visits

It is generally better for patients to be seen at one of our clinics where all our facilities are to hand but we can arrange home visits on request.

Nurse Clinics

A variety of nurse clinics are available for your pet.

Microchipping

Please contact us for more information.

Hospitalisation

Hospitalisation and care of sick animals.

Our aim at Midforest Vets is to keep your pet as healthy as possible and we hope that they do not need to stay with us in hospital. Most animals are much happier in their home environment with their families and so we generally only advise hospitalisation when really necessary. Some illnesses require treatment that can only be given whilst your pet is hospitalised in our care, for example if your pet requires intra-venous fluids or medications or intensive care from our team of vets and nurses. Whatever the reason we know it is a very worrying time for you and our dedicated team will do all we can to ensure your pet is well looked after whilst he/she is with us.

All hospitalised patients are given their own kennel with warm bedding and food and water as appropriate, and litter trays for cats. The kennels are cleaned and thoroughly disinfected between patients. All patients have at least one full clinical evaluation daily by a veterinary surgeon and all their basic needs are met by our fantastic nursing team.

Midforest Vets does not always have a vet or nurse permanently on the premises between the hours of 7pm and 8am on week-nights and after 12pm on Saturday at the weekend. All hospitalised patients are checked at least once during the night by one of the nurses or vets and at least 4 checks during the day at weekends. Dogs are walked outside where possible at these checks and medications are given. Additional checks during the night are given according to clinical need where deemed necessary including continuous supervision if required. Most of our patients however appreciate being left in peace and quiet for a few hours to get some sleep.

If you would prefer your pet to have continuous supervision regardless of his/her condition during the night then we have an arrangement with Vets Now Out of Hours emergency centres. Vets Now work through the nights and weekends and would be happy to care for your pet. Clients are responsible for transferring their pet between Midforest Vets clinics and Vets Now. Vets Now costs are available on request.

Alternatively if your pet’s condition is not too critical, it may be possible for you to take your pet home to continue the supervision yourself through the night as most of the medical care can often be provided during our normal clinic opening hours.

If you have any concerns regarding the hospitalisation of your pet at Midforest Vets then please do not hesitate to discuss it with a member of our team.
