You may have read in the news about the first recorded cases of Babesiosis in British dogs that have not travelled outside of the UK.
The cases have so far been only in Essex.
This disease is widespread through much of Europe.
Babesia is a parasite that causes destruction of red blood cells and anaemia and is spread by biting ticks.
It remains to be seen how quickly this disease will spread across the country.
The best way to protect your dog is to use an effective regular tick treatment.
This is especially the case if you travel overseas with your dog in the Pet Travel Scheme.
We have a variety of effective tick control products and our team will be happy to help you find the right option for your pets(s).
